Restoring Fido and Rogers iPhone Tethering on iPhoneOS 3.1 or 3.12

3 12 2009

tethering-iphone-20090608If you are like me, you HAD to have iPhone tethering even though it wasn’t supported yet. So, you poked around on the web and found/hacked a profile config file for Fido/Rogers and installed it.

Well, as of iPhoneOS 3.1, the iPhone will not accept unsigned config files (unless you have jailbroken); as such, this file will no longer work. This means that if you have the unsigned config file, your tethering option will disappear.

However, seeing as Rogers/Fido has officially embraced tethering (for now). If you have the hacked and unsigned config file installed it (or any similar file for other carriers, like AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.) and upgraded to iPhoneOS 3.1 or 3.1.2, you will need to remove it.

Open Settings > General > Profiles (at the bottom). Remove the profile you see there. Tethering should now show up for you.

Enjoy! The credit for this goes to http://cdslash.net/about/ who helped me work out the whole config file thing in the first place…

Mac OS X Snow Leopard Drivers Update for Novatel MC950D Wireless Modem USB Stick

3 12 2009

3.0.2_networknewinterfaceIt took me a while to find this, but in case you were looking for it…here’s the updated drivers for the Novatel MC950D Mobile Broadband USB Modem on Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

Without it, when you install Snow Leopard, the computer doesn’t recognize the modem anymore.

Enjoy!

YikeBike…I’m undecided

23 11 2009

Take a look at the video of this soon to be released electric bike. I saw it a while ago when it was still in its infancy, but a friend just sent me an email to check it out.

It is nerdy enough that I want one to ride around for sure, but I’m not sure if it has great utility as an urban car replacement or if it is just a cool new toy. If YikeBike wants to send me one to try, I’d be happy to test it out and report back. :-)

Bobby McFerrin demonstrates hardwiring of pentatonic scale in humans

14 09 2009

This is VERY interesting (to me, anyway).  Bobby McFerrin was on a panel at the World Science Festival and demonstrated how the pentatonic scale is somehow hardwired into human beings.  Apparently, it doesn’t matter where in the world he does this, each audience will respond similarly.

Geek, Nerd, Dweeb or Dork?

Glad finally someone put this into a graphical format that any the aforementioned groups would likely understand!

HEY! What did you call me?!?!
